Slade Green Big Local

About Big Local Trust

Big Local is an exciting opportunity for residents in 150 areas around England to use at least £1m each to make a massive and lasting positive difference to their communities. Big Local brings together the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live.

Big Local is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and managed by Local Trust. The Big Local outcomes nationally are:

  • Communities will be better able to identify local needs and take action in response to them.
  • People will have increased skills and confidence, so that they continue to identify and respond to needs in the future.
  • The community will make a difference to the needs it prioritises.
  • People will feel that their area is an even better place to live.

Slade Green Big Local was announced on February 2012 in the second wave of 50 Big Local areas to be announced.  Slade Green is the only Big Local area in Bexley.

The Big Local funding for Slade Green is held by a Locally Trusted Organisation and the community led local partnership selected Howbury Friends as the LTO for Slade Green.  This charity provides a wealth of programmes for local people of all ages to engage them in positive activities.

The Big Local Trust Programme lasts for ten years following the date of the first plan and currently Slade Green have delivered two full years and are looking forward to moving into year three and four (guided by this plan).  At the end of this period, we expect that the £1 million funding awarded by the Big Lottery Fund will have made a significant difference to the lives of people living in Slade Green and are actively working to ensure there are some long term changes and a lasting legacy.
